The ibn an-Nafis Scholarly Project in Research Excellence or INSPIRE Research Internship program for college students who are passionate about pursuing a career in the health sciences is a core effort of the Memphis Muslim Medical Clinic to utilize and develop rising, talented young adults to better understand and serve the comprehensive healthcare needs of underserved, minority, and refugee patients at the clinic.

Stipend: $500 dollars

Objective: The goals of the ibn an-Nafis Scholarly Project in Research Excellence (INSPIRE) Program at the Memphis Muslim Medical Clinic (MMMC) are:
-To perform a comprehensive review of and to establish baseline digitized epidemiological data for our patient population
-To understand the unique care needs of our patient population and that of the surrounding neighborhoods/zip-code areas in the light of publicly available epidemiological data
-To better tailor and implement evidence-based care solutions for our patients
-To demonstrate an ongoing need for continued care and expansion of care/services
-To use evidence-based data to better understand and address potential disparities in access to and delivery of care for historically underserved and minority patients
-To utilize the data that is garnered as a result of this project to develop and implement practical solutions
-To establish partnerships with Memphis-area institutions of higher learning
Selection Criteria and Program Requirements: Send completed applications and documents to inspire@muslimclinic.org
Current or recently-graduated undergraduate students interested in health professions or scientific research preferably with prior experience in research, data collection, Microsoft office use, database creation, and/or healthcare systems exposure and an interest in serving historically underserved and minority communities.
Time of summer portion of project: At least twenty (20) hours per week for four (4) weeks
Stipend: Five hundred dollars ($500)
Upon acceptance into the program, interns must review, acknowledge, and agree to abide by MMMC policies and procedures and complete HIPAA and introduction to research training prior to beginning the project.
